Olympians Swimming: The Power of Commitment

We believe that commitment is the cornerstone of a swimmer's journey and progress. It's more than just showing up; it's about dedicating yourself to consistent effort, growth, and teamwork, fostering a positive and supportive environment for everyone.

Why Commitment Matters

Commitment plays a crucial role in a swimmer's development. It involves consistently attending practices, arriving on time, and giving your full effort even when facing challenges. Swimmers who are committed actively focus on refining their technique, building stamina, and learning from setbacks, demonstrating a willingness to grow, adapt, and stay motivated over time. For coaches, evaluating commitment provides valuable insights into how swimmers respond to feedback, maintain consistency, and continually improve in the sport. This dedication contributes significantly to both personal development and the collective strength of the team.

Our Commitment Tiers

To guide swimmers as they advance, our commitment expectations evolve and are categorized into three distinct tiers, reflecting age, experience, and program goals:

  • Foundational Commitment: This tier focuses on participation, teamwork, and respect. It applies to swimmers in our beginning stages and Active for Life programs, such as Olympic Way Minis, Bronze, Silver, Olympians White, Red, and Masters. Key areas include attendance, participation/engagement, equipment readiness, and respect. The rubric for Foundational Commitment details expectations across these categories.
  • Developmental Commitment: This tier emphasizes structured training, habit building, and teamwork, designed for swimmers transitioning into competitive swimming, including Olympic Way Gold, Divisional 4, 5, and 6 programs. Key areas assessed are attendance, effort, preparedness, equipment, coachability, and teamwork. The Developmental Commitment rubric provides detailed criteria for evaluation.
  • Advanced Commitment: This tier focuses on continuous improvement, competition readiness, and leadership, applicable to competitive swimmers in Provincial 6, Provincial 7, National 8, and National 9 programs. Key areas include attendance, competition participation, preparedness, engagement, work ethic, coachability, and leadership. The Advanced Commitment rubric serves as a comprehensive guide for self-assessment, coach feedback, and goal setting.
